February 28 The New Role of The Pharmacist in Ontario Vivian Maxwell Pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator Will be speaking to us about how the pharmacist is now becoming more involved in personal health consultations with clients under the changed rules for pharmacists in our health care system.

AWARDS AND EDUCATION

As part of its mandate is to encourage higher education for women, CFUW Aurora/Newmarket is committed to providing an award for one student graduating from each high school in northern York Region.  We give an annual award to 13 high school students as well as a larger award to a graduate of York University and Seneca College.

In 2009 we initiated an annual Aboriginal Student Award to an Aboriginal student (male or female) from Sutton High School who is going on to post-secondary education.  In 2007 to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary, we funded a one-time award to a mature female student from York Region who was attending Ryerson University.  This award was granted in the fall of 2008.

Interested club members may serve on the Awards Committee and assist at Commencement ceremonies by giving out these awards.

Funds for these awards are raised through the sale of gently used books at our monthly meetings and at the popular Card and Games Luncheon held in November.
